After Hours with LIFT Orlando & MVP Families Set For September 28
On Thursday, Sept. 28, Florida Citrus Sports will host its first “After Hours” networking event for members and local residents at Camping World Stadium. LIFT Orlando Executive Director Eddy Moratin and Polis Institute Family Engagement Coordinator and MVP Families organizer Shawn Welcome will join Florida Citrus Sports for the event.
In a few short years, LIFT Orlando – the nonprofit initiative co-founded by Florida Citrus Sports – has energized the West Lakes neighborhoods around Camping World Stadium and made great strides toward a goal of community transformation. Earlier this year, LIFT Orlando secured the money to begin construction on an affordable, mixed-income community west of the stadium on Orange Center Boulevard.
The apartment complex, known as Pendana at West Lakes, is the first major project in LIFT Orlando’s plan to revitalize the area around the stadium. Moratin will provide an update on the progress of the complex, which is scheduled to begin moving in tenants next spring, as well as what else the organization has in store for the coming year.
For more than 20 years, Florida Citrus Sports has worked to enrich the lives of youth in the area through their “MVP Summer Camp” program. Last year, through the efforts of Florida Citrus Sports, LIFT Orlando, Florida Blue and the Polis Institute, the camp expanded into a year-round program known as “MVP Families.” Welcome will detail the program’s objectives and discuss the past year’s program, as well as the initiative’s plans for the future.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Appetizers and beverages will be provided. Admission is free for all Florida Citrus Sports members. General admission is $15.
